Our guest speaker for this meeting will be Brien Shoemaker, Outreach and Education Coordinator with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Indianapolis Office. Since joining the EEOC in 2001 he has served as an investigator and a supervisor. As an investigator Brien earned the Commission’s CORE award for outstanding contributions to the EEOC during his work as the lead investigator in a multi-agency class case involving hiring discrimination. Brien is also a member of the Labor Trafficking Committee for the Indiana Protection for Abused and Trafficked Humans (IPATH) and has spoken on this topic to numerous groups.
His presentation topic will be Civility in the Workplace: Thinking about Harassment Prevention in a New Light.
Learning objectives are:
- Learn about the EEOC’s definition of harassment
- Understand leadership’s role in preventing harassment
- Understand how communication can create a civil and respectful workplace
- Learn the interpersonal skills to deal with incivility at work and create a workplace that is rich in diversity and inclusion
